Putnam County Youth Fundraiser for Matching Funds
Students from Putnam County Community Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Committee recently conducted a special fundraiser at a local restaurant in Greencastle, Indiana: Youth Philanthropy Night at Almost Home
. Youth who participate in the Foundation's Committee were the servers for the evening event. They had a great time, worked hard and raised more than $2,500. The fundraiser was one of their strategies to raise money for YPII's recent Matching Fund Opportunity. Eric Wolfe, Director of Community Development for the Foundation, said, "It really raised awareness for the program . . . the very next grant cycle had more applicants than ever before. It was an amazing evening for them and for their fund development efforts."

Local Communities Receive Resources through YP Ambassadors Great resources--human, online and print--are available to local communities through the YP Ambassador program. A northern Indiana orientation for potential Youth Philanthropy Ambassadors will be held on Friday, September 12 at 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The day-long event will be hosted by several active northern Ambassadors and held at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne in Meeting Room A.
YP Ambassadors serve local communities across Indiana to promote the concept of philanthropy among children, youth and young adults. Thanks to our generous sponsors, this high-quality event is available for a nominal fee of $25 per participant.
Along with a continental breakfast and lunch, participants will receive outstanding resources valued in excess of $1,000 to use in their local communities. Ambassadors must be interested in and committed to advancing giving and serving for the common good. For more information about the Ambassadors program or to register for this event, visit: http://www.ypin.org

Allen County Conference on Youth
The flagship training of Great KIDS make Great COMMUNITIES is its Annual Conference on Youth. The Annual Conference on Youth emerged from a desire to ensure that all agencies working with children and families in Allen County operated with the same strengths-based philosophy. This yearly training brings in top professionals in the field of youth and family services to train area workers on strengths-based practices. For details on the 2008 event, visit:

2008 Service Leader Summit
Last
October, close to 100 students from across the state
converged on the City of Indianapolis to participate
in the fifth annual Service Leader Summit. Senator
Bayh and IUPUI co-hosted the summit in order to recognize
the efforts of Indiana's student volunteers and
inspire
them to continue volunteering throughout their lives.
To reach this goal, the event encompassed both learning
and serving opportunities, both of which will be replicated
this year.
The 2008 Service Leader Summit is scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 25. The Summit welcomes your nomination of two of your organization's young leaders to participate. To learn more about the event, download brochures and find registration forms, please visit:

National Philanthropy Day
National Philanthropy Day is November 15 and now is the time to begin planning! This is a great opportunity to promote youth philanthropy in local communities. Some things you might consider:
-
Ask the Mayor to decree November 15 as Philanthropy Day in your community
-
Ask youth to write articles about the benefits of giving and serving
-
Organize a service project where youth can give their time, talent and treasure
-
Have the library set up an exhibit showcasing materials on giving and serving
-
Circulate Giving Game cards to promote the pay-it-forward concept and its value
Let us know how you'll celebrate and we'll highlight your efforts in the E-Chronicle!
