Young Hoosier Philanthropists- Derek Jones
Derek Jones is a recognized young philanthropist and will be a 2007 graduate of Scottsburg High School next month. He has served as president of the Indiana Association of Student Councils and serves on the Riley Children's Hospital "Kids Caring and Sharing" Advisory Board. Derek has helped organize the District 12 National Youth Service Day park beautification project and a fundraiser for an 8 month old girl with leukemia. His involvement within his community is quite evident: participated in Big Brothers-Big Sisters "Bowl for Kids Day" for 7 years, volunteered at a camp for the mentally disabled for 2 years, and helped with
the Scott County Charity Auction for 10 years. His congregational volunteer work includes playing with the worship band and being an active member of the youth group. In school, he is involved in the Science Club, the Spanish Honorary Club, Academic Super Bowl team, and is a 6-year marching band member. Derek is an amazing young man who makes a difference in so many ways in Scott County and Indiana as a Young Hoosier Philanthropist!
New Resources at Learning to Give
Learning to Give has announced the development of new resources for youth workers. Learning to Give developed new activities for youth workers with philanthropic themes associated with religious based teachings. The activities can be incorporated into faith-based after-school settings, Sunday school programs, and youth small groups. These resources are now available at http://www.learningtogive.org/religiousinstructors/youth_activities/
or by going to their homepage in the new resources section. Also, in the LTG teachers’ room, content has been streamlined to make it easier for teachers to find the resources they need to incorporate philanthropy education in the classroom. Please visit the room at http://www.learningtogive.org/teachers/index.asp
