Young
Hoosier Philanthropist:
Amber Kriech
Amber Kriech has always loved to read. Her passion has followed her since elementary school, and accompanied her into the East Tenth United Methodist Children and Youth Center in 2008.
While at the center, which serves low-income families on Indianapolis's east side, Amber saw that a suitable space for sharing books' magic did not exist. Her solution? Transform a leaky storage space into a new library.
Amber, a freshman at Carmel High School, freed thousands of the center's books from boxes so that she could catalog and organize them for use in the library. To add to the selection, she scoured Goodwill stores and even donated some of her favorites. With the help of her family and friends, she also installed the shelves where the collection would live. Today, a place capable of igniting Amber's love in others stands where dust once reigned supreme.
Amber was nominated for and received a Power of Children Award for her efforts. We applaud her philanthropic vision and her determination to make a difference in the life of other kids! |

2010 Millennial Donor Study
Johnson, Grossnickle and Associates and Achieve recently conducted a study of the giving habits and engagement preferences of more than 2,000 people between the ages of 20 and 40 across the United States. The study found that when Millennial donors get involved with a nonprofit, they not only want to give financially, but also affect change, create direction and gain access to board leadership.
For more information, go to: www.millennialdonors.com/page/research-1 There you'll find the study's executive summary, full report and survey data. You can also attend a related research briefing webinar on April 15.
