YP Jam 2006: iGive-iServe: The Dance of Community Action
The Dance of Community action was evident in the 120 youth and adults who participated in the 2006 YP Jam. Anna Scally, an international speaker led participants through team-building and thought-provoking sessions that focused on giving and serving for the common good. Anna's other talent, serving as a DJ for the dance at night, made for a fun experience for all who attended.
Several other key sessions presented by YPII partners were: Recruiting Members To Your Cause, Basic Grant Writing Skills, Creative Service Project Planning, Things To Know When Starting A YP Program, Tools To Get The Word Out, and Comprehensive Fundraising.
A key element of the Jam involved all participants in a service project coordinated with the Franklin College Habitat for Humanity club. The words of those who participated sum up the conference best:
"It was so much fun to see people of all races, religions and places come together for one cause." Kayla
"Extremely informative!" Erinn
"...I really enjoyed myself and learned a lot." Quantina
"The networking was so helpful and the dance was amazing!" Derek
"I had loads of fun, broke out of my shell and made a bunch of new friends." Maggie

Philanthropy Has a Major LEAGUE Winning isn't everything, unless everyone wins! When it comes to the LEAGUE, every young person is a champion.
The LEAGUE powered by Learning to Give is a new philanthropy program for the schools that gives recognition to children and teens who give to others. The program encourages entire schools to participate in service activities; incorporates lessons that integrate philanthropy into the curriculum, and allows students to earn points for their philanthropic work.
The LEAGUE program is service-centered on monthly events that schools typically celebrate and provides quantifiable, newsworthy opportunities to spark local media coverage of youth "doing good." So philanthropy is advertised for all to see! Young people become team players and all of them win! If you would like to sign up for the LEAGUE or want additional information, please contact Kathy Matthies at kathymatthies@communityleague.org or 317-891-9900.
