Assessing the E-Chronicle for Youth Philanthropy Help us
to serve you better! You will receive a separate email request within the next week to complete an online survey about the YPII E-Chronicle. This is part of a comprehensive assessment of our services and will help us with our planning and effectiveness. All completed surveys will be eligible to be part of a drawing for one free registration for a youth to attend the 2007 YP Jam, July 12-13 at Franklin College. The Indiana Youth Institute offers valuable, low cost assessment services to youth serving organizations in Indiana. For more information on IYI's "briefcase services", go to

Philanthropy Day Celebration in Lawrence Township On National Philanthropy Day, students in the Lawrence Township schools celebrated the youth fundraising efforts for the Lawrence Township Caring Center. The Spanish Class at Lawrence Central raised over $1,000 and over $3,000 was raised in total to stock bedding, household items, diapers and clothing for the Caring Center.
The Lawrence Township School District and School Foundation are partnering with The Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana (YPII) in a pilot project to promote "giving and serving" within the schools and community of their township. Other community partners involved with the "Growing Our Community's Character" project are the Fort Ben YMCA, Youth As Resources of Central Indiana, MCCOY, Junior Achievement, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Emergent Leadership Institute.
Special events this semester were planned such as involving many of the students with "The Giving Game Card", a pay-it-forward act of kindness activity. Over 1,000 cards were distributed and will be tracked as to how many kind acts are performed. Additional information about the project can be found at www.ypin.org.

Harlem Ambassador Game Scores Big for Washington County
Razzle dazzle basketball, slam dunks, dancing, comedy and community spirit all contributed to make a Washington County Youth Foundation fundraising effort a success. The Harlem Ambassadors came to Salem to take on local high school players- the Monon Magic in a basketball game this fall that delighted the crowd. "We were so pleased with the turnout of 1,500+," stated Judy Johnson. "It took all of our board members and Youth Foundation members to keep up with the tickets and concessions. Everyone had a great time." The Ambassadors also traveled to all county middle schools and high schools for assemblies to promote their message, 'Stay off drugs, stay in
school,' through personal testimonials from team members."
The event was a fundraiser for the Washington County Youth Foundation, which issues grants for youth-directed community service, promotes philanthropy among their peers and performs community service. The game netted over $5,000 for the Youth Foundation, which will be matched dollar for dollar by a Paul Ogle Foundation grant to the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana. The goal for the Youth Foundation is to raise $10,000.00 in two years. The success of the Harlem Ambassadors game has put them well on their way to achieving this goal.
Power of Children Awards The Power of Children Awards Celebration will recognize four outstanding young Hoosier philanthropists on December 5th as part of The Children's Museum of Indianapolis' new permanent exhibit,
The Power of Children: Making a Difference scheduled to open in late 2007. The purpose of the awards is to help children and families realize that while some children are recognized nationally and internationally for their actions, there are many in our own communities whose good deeds too often go unnoticed. We look forward to recognizing these award winning youth in 2007!

Youth in Philanthropy Summit A North American Youth in Philanthropy Summit was attended by nine Hoosiers November 12-14th
at Rollins College, in Winter Park, Florida. Attendance at the Summit was by invitation and there were 44 youth and adult representatives from 30 national and regional nonprofit organizations who are involved in youth in philanthropy training and programs in the United States and Canada. The purpose of the Summit was to bring together the leading organizations involved in youth philanthropy efforts in order to get to know each other, learn what each is doing and the resources each has developed; to create a collaborative vision for working together and sharing ideas; and to develop the action steps for collaboration.
Over the three-day period, the participants assessed primary strengths, opportunities and needs from the perspective of grantmakers, youth-serving organizations, K-12 school programs, youth participants and collegiate programs. Six primary goal areas emerged: Public Awareness, Education, Collaboration, Resources, Research and Infrastructure. A "white paper" will be produced by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and a potential consortium will be considered to provide the ongoing leadership to advance the common agenda for the Youth in Philanthropy movement.
