Learning To Give - Indiana
Engaging students in "learning to give" can have a huge impact on a community. Learning to Give-Indiana, is an innovative movement to provide training and resourses to teachers for educating and engaging young people in giving and serving. A Summer Institute for teachers, June 14 - June 18, 2004 at IUPUI Indianapolis, will introduce teachers to the Learning To Give-Indiana program. The Institute will acquaint teachers with new techniques, including learning styles, Gardner's Multiple Intelligences, Academic
Service-learning and effective assessment tools. The Institute is offered at no charge to participants. Lodging, materials, instruction, and a $100 honorarium are provided. Participants may choose to receive graduate credit or CRU credits. A NEW YOUNG GENERATION ROCKS THE VOTE IN IOWA
The 2004 presidential election kicked off at the Iowa Caucuses, and a new generation rocked the vote. Polls showed that 17 percent of caucus attendees were between 17 and 29, up significantly from 9 percent in the 2000 Iowa Caucuses. This age group turned out to vote at a higher rate than the 30-44 year olds, which was 15 percent of voters. Young voters favored Kerry, with 35 percent of 17-29 year olds supporting him, while 25
percent went for Edwards. A presidential election is a great opportunity to promote youth civic engagement. How are we doing this in our local communities? For more information about the youth vote movement, visit: www.youthvote.org.

"Philanthropy BUZZ" -- a resource to answer your questions about youth philanthropy
Submit your questions for any of the YPII partners. If you have a question for "Philanthropy Buzz" email us.
Question: How do I know what others are doing in Youth Philanthropy and that it is more than a passing fad?
BuZZ: To see what others in Indiana are doing in youth philanthropy, visit our website at www.ypin.org, and look at our state map. Information is listed for youth philanthropy programs all over Indiana. Currently, over 40 programs are listed on the state map. Use the contact information to network and get new ideas for your program. You can also visit the Council of Michigan Foundation's Youth Grantmakers Web
site. Their program has been in existence for over 15 years and has generated millions of dollars in endowments in local communities as well as millions of dollars given to community projects which young people care about. If we want young people to be engaged in voluntary action for the common good, we need to provide opportunities in local communities where they can get firsthand experience on how their involvement can and does make a difference. Indiana can't afford not to get young people involved!
This response is brought to you by Community Partnerships with Youth Inc. and
