Young Hoosier Philanthropists - Matt Ciulla
is a 14-year-old ninth grader at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, who developed “Parties are Lessons in Sharing” (P.A.L.S.). Matt is a member of his school’s community outreach program and has worked with the Crooked Creek Multi-Service Center. The multi-service center promotes civic, social and personal responsibility for people who reside in the Crooked Creek area.
Matt’s vision was to have children who come to the center experience the personal concept of sharing. He organized a team of students and submitted a grant proposal to the United Way to create activities for learning through play. The idea was to hold events in a party-like atmosphere where the children would feel comfortable. The grant provided funds to pay for snacks and prizes for the children. To date, over 35 children have benefited from Matt’s leadership, fundraising and enthusiasm and Matt’s group continues to raise funds.
