GIVING AND SERVING PROMOTES DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS Service learning projects, especially those designed and led by students, provide youth with positive activities while promoting healthy youth development. That's according to "Kids As
Planners: A Guide to Strengthening Students, Schools and Communities through Service-Learning." This new guidebook provides teachers and youth workers with a process for designing, implementing and evaluating effective service-learning projects - including how projects can meet existing educational standards and character education programs. Order: http://www.servicelearning.org/lib_svcs/lib_cat/index.php?library_id=6450 Free, lesson plans that correlate to Indiana's
educational standards and integrate giving and serving into classroom work are also available at www.learningtogive.com. |

2006 YP Jam: iGIVE-iSERVE: COMMUNITY ACTION IN BLACK AND WHITE July 13th & 14th, 2006* An exciting action-packed theme will focus YP Jam 2006 in new areas this year on July 13-14th at Franklin College. Last year's participants asked for more opportunities to network, so we're adding focus groups, round table discussions, family groups, and expanded
community service to this year's fun-filled and educational experience! Brochures will be available soon, so please send a note to jfinn@ypin.org and let us know how many you'll need (an electronic brochure will also be available). If you are interested in joining the planning team, please let us know!
*Please note that these are the correct dates for the YPII JAM 2006. Different dates were listed in a previous E-Chronicle.

CHANGE THE WORLD . . . WITH YOUR COMPUTER Millions of personal computers often sit idly on desks and in homes worldwide on a daily basis. But by donating your unused computer time, you can begin to change the world for the better. For example, what if each of the world's estimated 650
million PCs could be linked to focus on humanity's most pressing issues? To make this vision a reality, Points of Light Foundation has become a partner of World Community Grid, joining the IBM Corporation and a group of more than 80 leading companies, associations, foundations and academic institutions. Points of Light Foundation is encouraging its members to find out more and contribute their idle PC time to World Community Grid at www.worldcommunitygrid.org
