UPDATED WEB SITE UNVEILED
The Indiana Youth Philanthropy Initiative has a new window through which the world can see what is going on regarding youth philanthropy across Indiana. Check out our updated Web site at www.ypin.org
. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. By the way, did you know that if you do a "Google search" of "youth philanthropy", second on the list to pop up is the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana. How cool is that?

CALL TO SUMMER SERVICE 2005
Long, relaxing days define summer. Volunteer support is especially important during this time of year because issues like hunger, senior companionship, environmental conservation, at-risk youth and public safety do not take a summer vacation. Our country's needs simply do not "have time off." It is the perfect time to mentor a child who would not otherwise have supervision during the day, clean up a park site while hiking, or take a leisurely stroll with a senior on the grounds of a nursing home. Summer opportunities are endless. For more information about summer volunteer opportunities, please check out these sites: The USA Freedom Corps site offers tip sheets and tools for summer at:

SEARCH INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES MVPARENTS

Search Institute announced the launch of MVParents, a national campaign that provides parents with tools, encouragement, and information to support them in being the most valuable players in their children's lives. The campaign includes both a TV spot featuring NFL legends to be aired on national television and a new Web site (MVParents.com). MVParents is a practical, easy-to-follow initiative that builds on the Search Institute's widely used, research-based framework of 40 Developmental Assets. The effort focuses on encouraging and equipping parents to stay actively involved in their kids' lives throughout middle and high school, building their assets and guiding them to make responsible choices. For more information, please go to:
www.MVParents.com or www.search-institute.org.

SHARE YOUR SERVICE STORY

The Voices for Service coalition is requesting Service Stories from the field so that they can highlight all the wonderful work you are doing everyday for their Web site,
www.VoicesForService.org. Another section of the Web site will showcase Stories of Impact that feature AmeriCorps and national service programs that are making a difference in communities across America.

DID YOU KNOW?

Kids are a top priority for most Americans. A Gallup Poll for America's Promise: The Alliance for Youth found that twice as many adults said "preparing young people for the future" was the single top priority for the nation (40 percent).

Kids want to feel valued and celebrated. Search Institute surveys of 6th- to 12th-grade youth in communities across the U.S. consistently find that only one in five young people say that adults in their community make them feel important and listen to them.

Adults don't have positive views of young people. A Public Agenda study found that at least two-thirds of adults have primarily negative views of young people.

Kids are contributing and deserve the recognition. Research by Independent Sector and Youth Service America shows that 59 percent of teenagers volunteer in their communities. The average teenage volunteer spent 3.5 hours per week volunteering.

YP JAM 2005: BUILDING LEARDERS FOR LIFE

The Youth Philanthropy Jam 2005 was a great success for attendees and organizers. About 100 youth and adults participated in workshops and celebrated youth leadership, giving, serving and civic engagement. Hightlights of the YP 2005 Jam will be featured in next month's E-Chronicle.
