Mission:
The mission of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Johnson County is to empower young people as community leaders who give their time, talent and treasure for the common good.
Vision:
Our vision is that young people from all walks of life in Johnson County will develop leadership skills and become aware, educated, and actively involved in philanthropy.
Goals:
To promote the concept of youth philanthropy in Johnson County.
To support youth philanthropy by empowering young leaders as grant makers and community leaders.
To sustain the youth philanthropy program by developing grant, program, and endowment funds.
Philanthropy Clubs:
Six high schools in Johnson County will have their own philanthropy club. Each club will get $500 and be encouraged to submit a grant proposal that will address a community need.

Grants:
Typically grants range between $50 to $500 dollars. Grants are awarded to a not-for-profit organization including youth groups, community organizations, schools, classrooms, religious organizations, and other 501(c) 3 non profits for projects that:
• Are youth-led from writing the proposal to implementation of the project (Required)
• Address a serious community need in Johnson County (Required)
• Bring together diverse people and organizations
• Have a learning component on philanthropy
• Increase the development assets of young people
Action Board:
Youth and adults work together as equal partners to govern the program. The youth and adult Action Board is charged with responsibility of:
• Promoting the Learning to Give curriculum to all Johnson County Schools
• Conducting several educational grant workshops for youth and not-for-profit organizations
• Motivating youth from all walks of life to take action and better their community
• Funding and monitoring 8 grants for youth-led service projects
• Coordinating 2 Kick Off Events and a year end celebration
What would we change:
Funding is a limiting factor for our program. We do not have any changes that we would make because the program is too new for changes. Our program began in January 2003.
