Program Description:
The mission of Link is to bring together and inspire leadership in high school students to improve and influence our community through service, grant making and educational opportunities.

Link, Connecting Philanthropy to Our Youth is a program that gives high school students in Hamilton County an opportunity to become more involved in community needs or issues in a way they may not be exposed to through other programs. Serving on this council gives these future leaders an opportunity to experience different types of philanthropy and its importance to the communities in which they live.

Endowment balance: $10,000.

If applicable, how are funds raised each year?
The LF Board of Governors sets aside $10,000 from our annual grant budget for our Youth Advisory Council's grant making. 2005 was the first year our Council implemented a fundraising plan.

2 adults, 13 students

1 student advisor, 1 community volunteer

Program Description:
YARCI challenges youth to identify community needs and provides small grants for volunteer projects they design and lead. Youth partner with adults on six boards governing YARCI, including all aspects of grant review and funding.

Community Partners:
YARCI is a program of United Way of Central Indiana.

Yes, $5,000

If applicable, how are funds raised each year?
Operating costs are raised through the United Way annual campaign. The grant pool is raised in part from United Way and through community foundations, government grants, and corporate and individual contributions.

73 youth grantmakers/board members (2005)
66 adult grantmakers/board members (2005)
2,950 youth volunteer project participants (2005)
200 adult volunteer project advisors (2005)

Who staffs the program:
YARCI is staffed by a Director, as well as full or part-time Coordinators in each of the six counties.
